: Annual forb usually less than 20 cm, ± glabrous, grayish, rhizomed; stems much-branched

: leaves alternate, pinnatifid to entire; basal < 3 dm, 6-8 cm wide, toothed, long-petioled; cauline reduced but many 1-4 cm wide, lower petioled, upper sessile

: dense racemes
Flowers
: small, cream, bisexual; sepals 4, free, < 1 mm, margins wide, white; petals white; stamens 6; ovary 1, superior, chambers generally 2, septum membranous, connecting 2 parietal placentas, style 1, stigma simple or 2-lobed

: a 2-celled pod, orbicular and flattened, 2-3 mm across, with tiny notch at apex, dehiscent; hairs sparse; pedicel >> fruit, slender, cylindric, hairs sparse or 0; style 0; Seeds 1 per chamber, gelatinous when wetted; wing narrow or 0; embryonic root at back of 1 cotyledon, rarely at edges of both

: pedicel 1-5mm, spreading/ascending; fruit a round, flattened disc with notched apex
