Horizontal stems flat on ground, 15--45 X 0.4--0.6 cm; stems (excluding leaves) thick, 1.5--2 mm wide; leaves monomorphic, appressed, 5--7 X 0.8--1 mm, marginal teeth 0--7 per side. Peduncles 1--7 per plant, 13--40 X 0.3--0.4 cm; strobilus 1/3--1/6 total length; leaves appressed, 3--5.3 X 0.3--0.5 mm, marginal teeth 0--3 per side. Strobili 25--60 X 3--4 mm. Sporophylls appressed, incurved, 3.5--5 X 0.3 mm, marginal teeth absent. 2 n = 156. Bogs, lakeshores, marshes, ditches, borrow pits; 0--100 m; N.B., Nfld., N.S., P.E.I.; Ala., Ark., Conn., Del., Fla., Ga., Ill., Kans., Ky., La., Maine, Md., Mass., Miss., Mo., N.H., N.J., N.Y., N.C., Okla., Pa., R.I., S.C., Tenn., Tex., Va.; West Indies in Cuba.
